Marula Distilled Gin builds its character around the marula, a rare African fruit known as the elephant-tree fruit for the animals that gather to eat it. Distilled in Belgium by Gintin, it pairs that exotic, honeyed sweetness with a more familiar bill of juniper, coriander, angelica root and citrus, the marula giving the gin a tropical lift that sets it apart from cooler, drier styles.
The nose is fruity with marula, fine juniper and a light citrus edge. The palate is soft and balanced, exotic sweetness meeting juniper and subtle herbs, before a long, smooth finish carrying a fine fruity freshness. It is gentle and easygoing rather than fierce. Pour it over ice with a Mediterranean tonic, or let it brighten a fruit-forward cocktail with berries or citrus.
