Martivillí is a Rueda Verdejo from Ángel Lorenzo Cachazo, grown on trellised vines at 700 to 800 metres. The wide day to night temperature swing keeps it fresh, with green apple, pineapple and a herbal boxwood edge over crisp acidity.
Description
Ángel Lorenzo Cachazo founded this Pozaldez winery in 1988 and works in the D.O. Rueda in Castilla y León. Martivillí is a single varietal Verdejo drawn from 45 hectares of trellised vineyards planted between 700 and 800 metres. The climate is Mediterranean with a strong continental influence, giving long cold winters and hot dry summers. The large difference between daytime and night time temperatures is the key to balance here, ripening sugar while preserving the acidity that defines the style. The high altitude reinforces that cool night effect. Fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature protects the aromatics and keeps the wine primary and fresh. It is pale with green highlights. The nose is aromatically intense, with green apple and pineapple lifted by hay and the varietal boxwood note that marks good Verdejo. The palate is light and crisp, citrus driven, with a faintly bitter herbal grip on the close that adds length. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and alongside shellfish, white fish and fresh salads.
