Description
Martivillí Sauvignon Blanc is a single-variety white from the D.O. Rueda, made by Bodegas Ángel Lorenzo Cachazo in the town of Pozaldez, Valladolid. The grapes come from vineyards at 700 to 800 metres on stony soils rich in calcium and magnesium, over the gravel and limestone that define the high Castilian plateau. At this altitude the climate is extreme, with hot days and cold nights, and it is that wide diurnal range that lets the fruit ripen while holding the sharp acidity and aromatic drive the variety needs. The wine is made in a cool, protective, unoaked style, fermented at controlled temperature to keep the fruit primary and the aromatics intact. It is pale straw with a green tint and shows lemon, green apple and elderflower with a herbal, faintly sage-like edge typical of Sauvignon Blanc grown cool. The palate is dry, crisp and mineral, the calcareous soils lending a chalky cut, and it finishes bright and clean. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
