Description
Martin Codax Albariño is made by Bodegas Martin Codax in the D.O. Rias Baixas, from Albariño grown in the Salnes valley in Galicia. Salnes is the coolest and dampest subzone, close to the Atlantic on granite-based, sandy soils; the maritime climate and sea air give the grape its bright acidity and saline character, and Albariño's thick skin copes with the wet conditions. The harvest follows traditional methods and the fruit is handled carefully to keep the wine pure. Fermentation is in temperature-controlled stainless steel, held cool to protect the aromatics, and the wine is bottled and released without ageing so the fruit stays fresh and immediate. It shows a bright straw-yellow colour and a nose of green apple and stone fruit with white flowers. The palate is fresh and lively, the fruit carried by a clean acidity and a coastal salinity through to a crisp finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass. Made for the shellfish and fresh fish of its home coast.
