Mars Yakushima Japanese Spring

Mars Yakushima Japanese Spring is a no age statement blended malt from Hombo Shuzo, released for the global market. The Yakushima name refers to Hombo Shuzo's maturation facility on Yakushima island, a heavily forested subtropical island off the coast of Kagoshima, where the warm and humid conditions are even more intense than at the main Tsunuki distillery, driving rapid and richly flavoured maturation. The Japanese Spring name places this alongside a family of seasonal and location-specific expressions within the Mars range.

Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, the spirit is bottled at cask strength, 49%, without specific tasting data available. The typical character expected from Yakushima-matured stock reflects the fast and tropical wood influence of the island's climate, with richer vanilla and dried fruit notes than a mainland-matured equivalent. The Mars Shinshu component from Nagano brings a contrasting alpine freshness that keeps the blend from becoming heavy.
