Description
Distilled at Tsunuki in 2018 and bottled in 2024 at 5 Years Old, this is a single cask single malt from Hombo Shuzo's Kagoshima distillery, released from cask T768, a bourbon barrel, for the Dutch market at cask strength. Tsunuki sits in the warm and humid climate of southern Kyushu, a setting that intensifies the wood's contribution and produces richer, more tropical maturation than Japan's cooler distilleries at the same age.
At 62%, this is among the higher bottling strengths in the Tsunuki single cask programme, retaining the full expression of the spirit and cask without reduction. The bourbon barrel format over five years in Kagoshima's conditions typically delivers vanilla, caramel and coconut alongside the distillery's characteristic fresh grain and tropical fruit. Where specific tasting notes were not entered, the typical profile from Tsunuki's bourbon barrel stocks at this age shows warm and rounded sweetness with a firm, spiced oak finish. A direct-to-market single cask in Tsunuki's own bottling programme.
