Description
Mars Peninsula Tokyo is a single malt from Hombo Shuzo's Mars Shinshu distillery in Miyada, Nagano prefecture, bottled for an event release in 2019 at a muscular cask strength of 60%. The spirit was matured in American White Oak barrels, the standard container for Ex-Bourbon-style maturation in the distillery's programme, and released under the Peninsula Tokyo name in connection with a hotel or event partner.
The event context and cask strength bottling give this an early-distillation character, with the data pointing to a cooked vegetable note typical of young or minimally diluted malt spirit still finding its profile. American White Oak at cask strength concentrates both the wood extraction and the raw new-make energy, producing a robust, direct expression. At 60% it demands water, which opens the vanilla and cereal foundation beneath the intensity and reveals the clean mountain character that defines the Komagatake house style.
