Description

Mars Malt Duo Komagatake x Chichibu is a blended malt collaboration between Hombo Shuzo's Mars Shinshu distillery in Miyada, Nagano and Venture Whisky's Chichibu distillery in Saitama. Mars Shinshu, which produces under the Komagatake single malt brand, operates Japan's highest distillery in the Central Alps; Chichibu is the small-batch Saitama distillery built by Ichiro Akuto in 2008. The Duo series pairs both houses in a single vatting, each contributing Ex-Bourbon matured malt to a release bottled for the global market.

Bottled at 54% cask strength, the 2021 expression delivers a notably varied flavour profile: fresh fruit and malt extract give brightness and sweetness, new wood adds structure and spice, chocolate brings depth, and a mossy, coal-gas character runs underneath. The combination reflects both the clean alpine precision of Komagatake and the vibrant, tropical richness that Chichibu brings from Saitama.
