Description
Distilled at Tsunuki in 2016 and bottled in 2020 at 4 Years Old, this is a single cask single malt from Hombo Shuzo's Kagoshima distillery, selected and bottled by La Maison du Whisky as an event release. Tsunuki opened in 2016 on the southern tip of Kyushu, where the warm and humid climate drives quicker wood interaction and a richer, more tropical character than Japan's mountain distilleries.
The cask is a second fill bourbon barrel, which has already given much of its primary vanilla and caramel to a prior fill, allowing the distillery character to show clearly at a young age. The flavour profile leans citric, fresh and tight at this stage of maturation. At 60% and released direct from cask, the spirit retains full intensity with no dilution. A focused and direct expression of Tsunuki at an early point in its maturation life.
