Marqués de Murrieta Primer Rosé 2023

Marques de Murrieta is a classic Rioja house with more than 160 years of history, based at the Ygay estate near Logrono, where its founder built a Bordeaux style chateau after learning his trade in France. Primer Rose is made exclusively from Mazuelo, the grape also known as Carinena, grown on the estate's own vineyards. Rioja's continental climate, moderated by Atlantic influence through the Ebro valley, gives warm days and cool nights, and the clay and limestone soils of Ygay hold freshness in the fruit. Mazuelo brings naturally high acidity and firm colour, which suit a crisp, savoury style of rose. The wine is vinified young in stainless steel, fermented cool to protect the primary fruit and aromatics, with no oak so the variety speaks clearly. The colour is a pale, bright pink. The nose shows red berries, red currant and citrus peel over white flowers and a touch of white peach. The palate is dry and fresh, with bright acidity, clean red fruit, a lemony lift and a clean, lasting finish. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees.
