Marqués de Cáceres makes this Verdejo in Rueda from estate vineyards at La Seca and Serrada. Fermented young and unoaked, it shows ripe white fruit, lemon and green apple with the grape signature bitter herb note and a broad, juicy palate.
Description
Marqués de Cáceres Verdejo is a single variety white from D.O. Rueda. The winery is best known in Rioja but farms two estates in Rueda, at La Seca and Serrada, planted with Verdejo alongside Sauvignon Blanc and Viura. Rueda sits on the high Castilian plateau, where stony, free draining soils and a wide day to night temperature swing let the grapes ripen while holding on to acidity and the aromatic character of Verdejo. This bottling is fermented young in stainless steel with no oak, a method that keeps the fruit fresh and preserves the grape's signature bitter herb and fennel edge. The wine is pale straw with green highlights. The nose shows ripe white fruit and fine citrus, with the herbal note typical of the variety. The palate has a broad, juicy attack backed by fresh acidity, finishing dry with a faintly bitter, savoury twist that is the Verdejo hallmark. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It is a good all rounder with white fish, shellfish, green salads and fresh goat cheese.
