Marqués de Cáceres makes this Rioja rosado near Cenicero, mostly Tempranillo with a little Garnacha from vines aged 15 to 20 years on clay and limestone. Hand harvested plot by plot, it shows ripe strawberry, blackberry and a citrusy lift over a faint aniseed edge.

Description
Marqués de Cáceres is one of Rioja's best known houses, and this rosado comes from vineyards around the town of Cenicero in the Rioja Alta. The grapes are mainly Tempranillo with a small proportion of Garnacha, grown on clay and limestone soils that hold water through the growing season and lend the wine structure and freshness. The local climate is Atlantic in character but tempered, which lets the fruit ripen slowly and keep its acidity. The vines, between 15 and 20 years old, are harvested by hand plot by plot, and the two varieties are vinified separately before blending. A cool, controlled fermentation preserves the primary aromatics and the bright colour. The result is a vivid pink wine with a nose of juicy strawberry and ripe blackberry, lifted by citrus peel and a delicate aniseed thread. The palate is fresh and fruit driven, with red berry and redcurrant flavours, a clean line of acidity and a savoury close. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
