Description
Marques de Caceres Blanco is a single variety Viura from D.O.Ca. Rioja, made by the Marques de Caceres winery. The fruit comes from old vines of more than thirty years, planted on clay and limestone soils in Rioja Alta, where the climate is Atlantic influenced and generally temperate. Older vines carry lower yields, which concentrates the fruit, and the cooler western reaches of Rioja Alta help keep the acidity fresh. The harvest is done by hand, plot by plot, so each parcel can be picked at its own ripeness. Alcoholic fermentation runs at a controlled temperature of 15 to 18 degrees, and the wine is bottled without oak, a deliberately fresh, primary style that lets the Viura fruit speak. The colour is bright, clean straw. The nose is juicy white fruit, with pear, apricot and peach wrapped in fresh citrus. The palate is dry and vivid, the fruit forward and the acidity clean, closing on citrus peel and a light floral note. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass.
