Description
Bodegas Luis Perez works in Jerez de la Frontera, in the V.T. Cadiz, where the oenologist and researcher Luis Perez set out in 2002 to revive red wine in a region known for Sherry. Marismilla is a single variety rose from Tintilla de Rota, an old Andalusian grape grown on the Hacienda Vistahermosa estate on the high ground of Pago del Corchuelo. The vineyards lie on the pale, chalk rich albariza soils of the Jerez zone, which reflect sunlight and retain moisture through the hot, dry summers, while Atlantic influence from the nearby coast tempers the heat and keeps freshness in a warm climate wine. The grapes are picked ripe, giving the wine its full 14.5 per cent and its generous fruit. Vinified as a young, unoaked rose, it keeps primary fruit and a vivid colour. The hue is a bright cherry pink. The nose shows ripe red berries, cherry and plum with a lift of citrus peel and a peppery, herbal edge from the variety. The palate is dry but full and rounded, with ripe berry fruit, warm spice and a long finish. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees.
