Description
Marimar Torres, of the Torres family, planted Albariño in the Russian River Valley of California, betting that the cool, foggy climate would suit a grape from Galicia. This wine proves the point. Russian River sits close to the Pacific, and morning fog with a wide day-to-night temperature swing slows ripening and keeps acidity firm even as the fruit reaches full ripeness. The vineyards are farmed organically. After fermentation the wine was aged on its lees, where contact with the spent yeast adds a creamy weight and a fuller texture while the yeast's mannoproteins soften the palate. The colour is bright straw. The nose shows ripe peach, apricot and melon, with citrus and a light floral note. The palate is rounder and riper than a Galician Albariño, with stone fruit and a saline thread from the maritime site, held together by fresh acidity through a long finish. The higher alcohol gives it presence without heaviness. Serve it at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.

Additional information
The ripe stone fruit and saline core suit grilled prawns, seared scallops and lobster with butter. It also handles roast chicken and grilled pork. Richer fish such as monkfish and swordfish work well with its weight.
