Marcel Lapierre was a founding figure of natural Beaujolais, and this Morgon comes from Gamay grown on the granite and blue schist of Villié-Morgon. Made without added sulphur or yeast, it shows wild raspberry, cherry and a savoury earthiness.

Description
Domaine Marcel Lapierre is one of the reference estates of natural Beaujolais, farming Gamay biodynamically at Villié-Morgon in the north of the region. Morgon sits on decomposed granite and blue schist rich in iron and manganese, soils that give the cru its structure and its characteristic mineral depth. The Cuvée Camille is made in the low-intervention style Lapierre learned from Jules Chauvet, with whole-bunch semi-carbonic fermentation using only the wild yeasts present on the fruit and no added sulphur. Carbonic maceration works inside the intact berry, drawing out bright red fruit and floral aromatics while keeping tannin and extraction gentle, so the wine stays light on its feet. Ageing in old wood adds roundness without oak flavour. The colour is a bright translucent ruby. The nose leads with wild raspberry, cherry and rose, backed by a savoury note of crushed stone and earth. The palate is fresh and juicy, low in tannin, with red currant acidity carrying a clean finish. Serve lightly chilled at around 14 degrees, which suits its style. It works well with charcuterie, roast chicken and lighter pork dishes.
