Marca Negra Sierra Negra Mezcal

Marca Negra is a high proof single village line, and this bottling is made from the powerful Sierra Negra agave in San Luis del Rio in the Tlacolula district of Oaxaca. Sierra Negra is a wild member of the Agave americana family and one of the largest agaves, taking up to twenty five years to mature, so it is rarely seen and is sometimes close to Arroqueño in size and character.
Worked in the traditional artesanal way and bottled undiluted, the spirit shows the big savoury depth of a mature americana agave. The nose layers lemon sorbet, agave syrup and roasted hazelnut with orange freshness, coffee and a thread of mesquite smoke and pine. The palate is mineral and bold, with charcoal, dried fish, iodine and slate set against vanilla cherry and green apple. At 48.5% it stays intense and earthy.
