Marama Spiced InIndonesian Rum

Marama Spiced is an Indonesian rum dressed up with vanilla and warm spice, part of the modern wave of sweet, accessible spiced bottlings rather than a serious aged spirit. Indonesia has a long sugar-cane and arrack tradition, but here the emphasis falls firmly on added flavour, with orange peel and vanilla doing much of the work.

Bottled at 40% and clearly sweetened, it reads as a flavoured rum to be enjoyed for what it is, with bold candied orange and vanilla up front. Expect intensity and sweetness rather than subtlety, which makes it more at home over ice or in a simple mixed drink than as a contemplative neat pour.
