A cask-strength young agricole-style rum from Manutea in Tahiti, vivid and vegetal with fresh cane, lemon and a floral lift, bottled at a punchy 59.9% that turns it into a formidable Ti’ Punch base.
Description
Manutea Quintessence is a Polynesian cane-juice rum from Tahiti, distilled on a column still from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice rather than molasses, then briefly rested in ex-bourbon oak. At only half a year old it is effectively a white rum, agricole-style in spirit though far from the French islands, and it is bottled at full cask strength.
The nose is fresh, fruity and vegetal with a clear lemon note, while the palate stays grassy and warm over sugar-cane sap, drying out toward a floral, earthy finish. At 59.9% the strength is very much present, giving it real grip neat for the curious and serious clout in a T-punch, where the cane and citrus come into their own. This is an exotic detour for the agricole drinker, high-proof and undeniably alive rather than polished and easy.
