A young Tahitian ambre from Mana’o, a one-year cane-juice rum off a column still aged in ex-bourbon oak at 43%, soft and citrus-led with pear, bergamot, caramel and vanilla over light wood, an easy first step into agricole-style rum.
Description
Mana'o makes cane-juice rum in French Polynesia, an agricole-style spirit far from the Caribbean heartland. This Ambre is a young expression, distilled on a column still from fresh sugar-cane juice and lightly aged for a year in ex-bourbon oak before bottling at a soft 43%.
The profile is gentle and approachable. The nose is citrusy and fruity with a touch of medicinal lift over sugarcane; the palate brings fruit, pear and a floral, agricole edge; the finish stays light and a little short, woody with pear, grapefruit and lime, plus a faint dry close. Caramel, vanilla and bergamot fill out an easygoing, soft body. It is more a friendly introduction than a serious sipper, working well for drinkers curious about cane-juice rum but not yet ready for the full grassy intensity of a Caribbean blanc, and it slips easily into a mixed drink.
