Ruby Kirschlikoer, from the Mama Geht Tanzen range, is a fruit liqueur made by the Privatbrennerei Boente in Germany. It is a modern cherry liqueur bottled at 15%, built for a full bodied cherry flavour with a fresh, slightly extravagant note. In the traditional fruit liqueur style the fruit sits on a neutral base, the sweetness pitched to keep the cherry bright rather than heavy, which suits its place as an easygoing social pour.
The nose is intensely fruity with ripe cherries, a fine sweetness and a touch of floral freshness, while the palate is full bodied, fresh and fruity with a clear cherry note and a slightly tart depth, closing soft, lively and long with an elegant fruity sweetness. In a drink it adds deep red colour, jammy fruit sweetness and a little acidic lift, which makes it a ready base for fizzes and spritzes. It works neat at 8 to 10 degrees, over ice for extra freshness, or as a base for cocktails such as a cherry fizz or a Kirsch Spritz with sparkling wine. It suits after work drinks, brunches and relaxed evenings. Serve chilled so the fruit stays crisp.
