A 13-year Panamanian ron bottled at a fuller 50.5%, round and fruity with vanilla, orange, leather and sweet oak over a tobacco-and-wood finish, a balanced middle-ground pour with more strength and bite than the soft Panama norm.
Description
Malecon Rare Proof 2006 is a Panamanian ron in the Latin tradition, a molasses spirit distilled on a column still, carried thirteen years in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at a fuller 50.5%. Malecon draws on Panama's deep stocks of aged rum, and this release pairs the region's mellow character with enough strength to give it real grip.
The nose offers vanilla, barrel, orange and a floral violet note, with a palate of oak, leather and dark chocolate running into a woody, tobacco-laced finish with a faintly bitter edge. The added strength lets it sit in a useful middle ground: still round and easy in the Panama mould, with a sweet-oak softness, but with more body and bite than a standard 40% bottling. It comes across as a balanced, well-rounded sipper, the kind of relaxed evening pour best taken neat where its fruit and vanilla can settle.
