Malabrigo is a single-estate Tinto Fino from Cepa 21 near Aranda del Duero. Grown on loam and clay swept by strong winds and aged twenty-one months in French oak, it is a ripe, powerful Ribera del Duero with dark fruit, chocolate and spice.
Description
Malabrigo is a single variety Tinto Fino from Cepa 21, a modern bodega near Aranda del Duero that pairs traditional methods with contemporary winemaking. The grapes come solely from the Malabrigo estate, where the soil is loam and clay and the site is exposed to strong winds and the sharp temperature contrasts of the high Duero plateau. Those swings between hot days and cold nights drive a long, even ripening that builds deep colour, ripe tannin and concentrated dark fruit while holding onto acidity. Farming follows respectful, sustainable practice. The wine is aged for twenty-one months in French oak barrels, a long elevage that uses fine grained French wood and slow oxygen exchange to tighten the structure and add measured spice, vanilla and toast in support of the fruit rather than over it. At 15 percent the wine is full and powerful. The colour is deep and saturated. The nose shows ripe plum and black cherry over dark chocolate, liquorice, sweet spice and a toasted edge. The palate is dense, warm and structured, with firm tannins and a long finish. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant. A wine for robust roast meat.
