Maker’s Mark, a distinctive wheated bourbon, is renowned for its smoothness and approachable flavor profile. Crafted at the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky, this bourbon replaces the traditional rye grain in its mash bill with soft red winter wheat. This unique recipe, with exact proportions undisclosed but consisting of wheat, corn, and malted barley, contributes to the bourbon’s softer, sweeter character with less spice compared to traditional rye-based bourbons.

Description
Aged approximately 6-7 years in new, charred American white oak barrels, the bourbon boasts a nose of caramel, vanilla, and honey, with hints of fruit and oak. The palate delivers a creamy mouthfeel with flavors of sweet corn, vanilla, and a touch of spice. Bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) and chill-filtered, it finishes with a medium length, leaving a lingering warmth and notes of caramel and oak. Notably, Maker's Mark was one of the first bourbons to embrace marketing and advertising, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s with the tagline "It tastes expensive...and is." This bold approach, coupled with its unique flavor profile and iconic hand-dipped red wax seal, helped distinguish Maker's Mark in a crowded market and contributed to its lasting popularity.
