Jean-Philippe Manches makes this organic Cotes du Rhone Blanc at Maison Orcia from Grenache Blanc, Carignan and Viognier. Aged in concrete, it shows ripe stone fruit, mango and orange with a warm, rounded palate.
Description
Maison Orcia is the project of Jean-Philippe Manches, a winemaker trained at the Suze la Rousse wine university in the Drome who set out in 2016 to make wines that reflect the places they come from. This white is made in the AOC Cotes du Rhone from Grenache Blanc, Carignan and Viognier. The Southern Rhone has a warm Mediterranean climate, with plenty of sunshine and the drying mistral wind, and these conditions ripen the grapes fully, giving the wine its generous stone and tropical fruit. Grenache Blanc lends body and a soft citrus core, Viognier adds floral lift and apricot, and the wine is aged in concrete. Concrete tanks keep the fruit fresh and hold a clean profile while giving a rounded texture, without adding any oak character. It shows a radiant golden hue, with ripe white peach, apricot and mango on the nose over orange peel and white flowers. The palate is warm and rounded, with generous orchard fruit, a honeyed touch and a soft, dry finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It works as an aperitif and with lighter poultry and vegetable dishes.
