A blanc from La Mauny at Riviere-Pilote, the Ter Rouj bottling at 45%, fresh and green with sugarcane, peppery spice and floral, vegetal notes, a dry, grassy Martinique white built for a classic Ti’ Punch.
Description
Ter Rouj is a white from La Mauny, one of Martinique's heritage houses, with roots to 1749 at Riviere-Pilote. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice and bottled at 45%, it carries the island's cane juice tradition in a fresh, unaged form.
In the creole-column style, run low to keep the green congeners in the spirit, it shows fresh sugarcane, a peppery lift and a vegetal, floral character on the nose. The palate stays grassy and green with floral and agricole notes, finishing clean and vegetal. There is a mild sweetness on entry noted in tasting before the green, herbaceous side takes over, so it reads as a typical dry blanc rather than a sweetened one. At 45% it is a versatile, grassy white that sits comfortably neat but is at its best as the base of a Ti' Punch, where its fresh cane and pepper come forward.
