Maison La Mauny Le Nouveau Monde

Maison La Mauny Le Nouveau Monde is a twelve year old expression from one of the largest agricole houses in Martinique, with roots at Riviere-Pilote going back to 1749. Distilled from fresh cane juice on a column still, it sits in the vieux territory of the AOC where tropical ageing pushes maturity well beyond the stated years. The result is a wood-driven agricole pitched for approachability rather than power.

A dozen years in ex-bourbon barrels under Caribbean heat brings deep oak, vanilla and cocoa, with prunes, orange peel and ripe tropical fruit folded around a still-present cane core. At a modest 41% it lands soft and balanced, the spice and chocolate carrying into a woody, lightly tropical finish. It suits drinkers who want the polish of an older agricole without the bite, an easy after-dinner pour that newcomers and longtime agricole drinkers can both meet on.
