A honey-infused Martinique cane-juice rum from La Mauny at a low 35%, genuinely sweet with real wild honey, grass and cinnamon over a vegetal base, a soft liqueur-style pour better suited to Ti Punch than neat sipping.
Description
Maison La Mauny Honey is a flavoured rhum from La Mauny, the large heritage agricole distillery at Riviere-Pilote in Martinique, built on a base of fresh-pressed sugarcane juice. This is not a dry sipping agricole but a honey-infused, sweetened rum, made with genuine wild honey rather than artificial flavouring, with time in foudre lending some balance.
At 35% it sits below standard rum strength, in liqueur territory, and it drinks accordingly: honey leads on both nose and palate, with grass, cinnamon and a vegetal cane edge underneath, soft and light throughout. The honey is real and the sweetness is the point, so this is best understood as a sweet, flavoured pour rather than a structured agricole. It comes into its own as a sweetener, used in place of sugar in a Ti Punch where the honey and cane base belong together, or sipped chilled as a gentle digestif.
