An easy-drinking young Martinique agricole at 40%, leaning into red fruit, raspberry and prune with a fresh, lightly peppery palate and young wood on the finish, a soft entry point to the style.
Description
La Mauny traces its heritage at Riviere-Pilote back to 1749 and is one of Martinique's largest houses. This Heritage 1749 bottling is a young agricole, around two years in oak and reduced to an approachable 40%, made from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice as the AOC requires.
Matured briefly in ex-bourbon oak, it noses on red fruit, wood, raspberry and prune, with a fresh, smooth and lightly peppery palate and a finish of red fruit, prune, raisin and young wood. The short ageing keeps it light and unintimidating rather than deep or spice-heavy, which makes it an honest, easygoing pour and a sensible first step for anyone new to agricole. It rewards casual sipping more than careful study, and works comfortably as an everyday cane juice rum with a pleasant red-fruited lift on the close.
