A pineapple flavoured agricole from Maison La Mauny on Martinique, built on a cane juice base and leaning into vivid fresh pineapple with ginger and tropical fruit, a sweet, fruit forward bottle for cocktails rather than neat pours at 40%.
Description
Maison La Mauny is one of the larger Martinique houses, with heritage reaching back to 1749 at Riviere Pilote, working from fresh pressed sugar cane juice in the agricole tradition. This Ananas bottling takes that cane juice base and turns it toward pineapple, a flavoured rum rather than a straight AOC expression, so the protected vieux and blanc tiers do not apply here.
Pineapple runs right through it, vivid and prominent on nose and palate, joined by ginger, tropical fruit and a herbal edge, with the cane showing as a green undertone rather than the main event. The finish keeps the pineapple going alongside a little caramel and a faintly medicinal note. It is sweet and openly fruit driven, and it earns its keep in a glass of ice with a long mixer or in tiki style cocktails rather than as a neat sipper. At 40% it stays soft and approachable, a sociable, summery pour.
