Description
Mais de Cunqueiro is a young white from the D.O. Ribeiro in Galicia, built on native varieties: mainly Torrontés, with Albariño and Godello in support. It is a traditional local blend that reads as a clear expression of the area. Ribeiro sits inland in the valleys of the Miño and its tributaries, where granite soils and cool river influence keep the grapes bright and the acidity firm. The fruit is hand harvested and selected, then cold macerated to draw aroma from the skins before a slow fermentation in steel tanks at around twelve to fifteen degrees. That cool, oak free approach preserves the floral, primary character of the grapes and keeps the wine fresh. It pours a bright straw yellow. The nose is delicate and floral, with pear and white peach over lemon, citrus peel and white flowers. The palate is light and crisp, with a stony, mineral finish that reflects the granite soils and the cool valley. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
