Description
Maestro Dobel Diamante is a cristalino, made by the Beckmann family at La Rojeña in the town of Tequila, the same Jose Cuervo house often credited with popularising the category. It blends reposado, añejo and extra añejo tequilas aged up to three years in white oak, then strips the colour with charcoal filtration so an aged spirit pours clear like a blanco.
This is aged tequila that has been decolourised, not an unaged blanco, and filtration softens the oak grip while keeping the barrel sweetness. The nose shows pepper, vanilla, caramel, floral notes and a little wood and fruit, and the palate follows with light agave, vanilla, caramel and a faint smoke. Bottled at 38 percent, it reads soft and sweet, lighter on tannin than its years in wood would suggest.
