Description
Michel Chapoutier is one of the Rhône's leading names and a committed biodynamic grower, and La Bernardine is his Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The white blends Grenache Blanc with Clairette, Grenache Gris and Roussanne, farmed organically and biodynamically. Châteauneuf's soils, including the famous galets roulés and sandy clay over limestone, drain freely and hold heat, ripening these southern varieties to a full fourteen per cent, while the blend keeps freshness and aromatic range: body and almond from Grenache Blanc, acidity and florals from Clairette, weight and stone fruit from Roussanne. The wine is aged twelve months in oak. Extended barrel ageing allows a slow exchange of oxygen through the wood that builds texture and stability, and adds vanilla and a toasted, spiced note. The colour is a bright golden yellow. The nose is white peach and apricot with honey, white flowers and vanilla oak spice. The palate is dry and full bodied, broad and rounded, with almond and a warm, savoury finish. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees in a large white glass.

Additional information
The weight and oak spice pair with roast chicken and roast pork, and with richer white fish such as monkfish or turbot. The nutty, honeyed character also works well with hard cheeses like aged Comté or Gruyère.
