Bodegas Lynus makes this Ribera del Duero red from Tempranillo grown across its terroirs near Roldán. Twelve months in French oak give a young, structured red of black cherry, plum, vanilla and firm tannin.
Description
Bodegas Lynus is a family winery in the Ribera del Duero, founded in 1999 and producing around 60,000 bottles a year from its own grapes. Origen is made from Tempranillo, known locally as Tinto Fino, drawn from the estate's different terroirs near Roldán. Ribera del Duero sits high on the northern Spanish meseta, where the altitude brings a wide day to night temperature swing that holds acidity and builds colour and aromatic intensity, while the continental climate and poor limestone and clay soils concentrate the fruit. The wine is aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the firm tannin and adds vanilla and sweet spice, giving structure while keeping the wine fresh and primary as a younger expression. The colour is deep, dark ruby. The nose shows ripe black cherry and plum, with vanilla and a touch of liquorice from the oak. The palate is full bodied, the tannins firm and the acidity bright, with a long, savoury finish. Decant briefly and serve at around 17 degrees. It suits grilled and roast red meats, lamb and aged cheese.
