Bodegas Luis Pérez makes El Triángulo near Jerez in V.T. Cádiz from Tintilla de Rota, an old Andalusian red grape. Aged mostly in steel with a short spell in used oak, it is fresh and savoury, with red and dark fruit and a herbal, saline edge.
Description
Luis Pérez El Triángulo is a red from V.T. Cádiz, made by Bodegas Luis Pérez at the Hacienda Vistahermosa estate near Jerez de la Frontera. It is built from Tintilla de Rota, a historic Andalusian variety that Luis Pérez has helped revive as a still red wine in country better known for Sherry. The vineyards lie in the heart of the Jerez zone, where the albariza-influenced soils and the warm Atlantic-tempered climate give ripe but fresh fruit, the sea breezes keeping acidity intact. The winemaking favours freshness: the wine spends fifteen months in stainless steel, which preserves the variety's bright fruit and herbal character, with a short five months in used French oak that integrates the structure without imposing new wood flavour. The colour is a bright medium red. The nose offers raspberry and red cherry, darker plum, dried herbs and a peppery, slightly saline note. The palate is fresh and savoury, medium bodied, with fine tannins, lively acidity and a clean, herb-tinged finish. This is a distinctive, food-friendly southern red. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. It suits grilled meats, pork and hard cheese.
