Description
Luis Pato works in Bairrada, in the Beiras region of Portugal, from a family estate at Quinta de Ribeirinho that has grown vines for over 200 years. This young red blends the indigenous Baga and Touriga Nacional. Bairrada's clay and limestone soils and cool, Atlantic influenced climate give Baga its high acidity, firm tannin and red fruit, while Touriga Nacional adds darker fruit, colour and a floral, aromatic lift. The maritime setting keeps alcohol moderate and the fruit fresh. The wine spends six months in stainless steel with no oak, a choice that locks in bright primary fruit and lets the grapes and terroir speak without the influence of wood. The 2024 is fresh and direct, with red berries, plum and cherry over black pepper, dried herbs and an earthy note. The palate is medium bodied, the acidity lively and the tannins present but fine. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, with a light chill in warm weather. It works with roast pork, poultry and tomato based dishes.
