Description
Lucien Le Moine is the Burgundy project of Mounir Saouma, a producer known for the precision of his ageing and his work with the region's grand and premier cru sites. This wine comes from Les Sentiers, a premier cru vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny, on the Côte de Nuits, planted to Pinot Noir. Chambolle is prized for the finesse of its reds, a character that comes in large part from its soils, which carry a high proportion of limestone and active chalk over thinner topsoil. That geology, combined with a cool continental climate and a wide diurnal range, gives wines of elegance, perfume and bright acidity rather than weight. The wine is aged ten months in oak barrels, where slow, measured oxygen exchange refines the tannins and adds a fine grain of spice while preserving the delicacy of the fruit. The colour is a bright, medium ruby. The nose is intense yet lifted, with wild raspberry and fresh cherry over rose, earth and a savoury, mineral note. The palate is medium bodied and silky, with red fruit, fine-grained tannin and a long, elegant finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees in a large glass. It suits roast duck, game birds and beef fillet.
