Tenuta Luce makes this Brunello di Montalcino from Sangiovese grown on the hillsides of southern Tuscany. Aged twenty-four months in oak, it is full bodied and firm, with cherry, dried herbs and leather over a structured tannic frame.
Description
Tenuta Luce sits in Montalcino, in the warm south of Tuscany, where Sangiovese ripens fully to make Brunello di Montalcino, the region's most structured red. The vineyards run across hillsides of galestro and clay soils, free-draining ground that stresses the vines and concentrates the fruit, while the warm days and cooler nights of the elevated sites preserve acidity and aromatic detail. This is pure Sangiovese, a grape that gives high acidity and firm tannin alongside its red and dark fruit. The wine is aged twenty-four months in oak barrels, where the long maturation and gentle oxygen exchange through the wood polish the tannins and add spice and a savoury depth, while malolactic conversion settles the acidity. The colour is deep garnet. The nose carries ripe cherry and plum, dried herbs, leather and tobacco. The palate is full bodied at fifteen percent, with grippy but ripe tannins, bright acidity and a long, earthy finish. This is a wine for the table and for the cellar. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant well ahead. It is built for roast and grilled red meats.
