Louis Latour makes this Bourgogne Pinot Noir from around 30 year old vines on limestone, clay and granite. Ten months in stainless steel keep it bright and direct, with fresh cherry and red berry fruit and a light, earthy finish.
Description
Cuvée Latour is a single-variety Pinot Noir from the regional Bourgogne appellation, made by Louis Latour, a family house established in Burgundy for more than two centuries. The estate works around 50 hectares of vineyards and even makes its own barrels. The vines for this wine are roughly 30 years old, planted on limestone, clay and granite soils, with an average yield of 45 hectolitres per hectare. Burgundy's cool continental climate and these well-drained soils suit Pinot Noir, giving bright fruit and clear acidity rather than weight. The wine ages ten months in stainless steel tank, which preserves the freshness and purity of the fruit and keeps the style direct, with no oak influence to cover the grape. The colour is light, bright ruby. The nose shows fresh cherry and red berry fruit, redcurrant and a floral hint, with the earthy undertone typical of the variety. The palate is light to medium bodied, with soft tannin, lively acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly cool. It suits roast chicken, duck and mushroom dishes.
