Louis Latour makes this Bourgogne Gamay from fruit in Beaujolais. Aged ten months in stainless steel, it keeps Gamay bright and fresh, showing red berries, cherry and a light peppery lift with soft, low tannin.
Description
Bourgogne Gamay comes from Louis Latour, the long-established Burgundy house, using Gamay grown in Beaujolais, the southern neighbour where the grape is at home. Gamay on the granite and schist soils of the Beaujolais hills gives bright, low-tannin reds built on red fruit and freshness rather than weight. This wine was aged ten months in stainless steel rather than oak, a choice that keeps the fruit primary and the wine fresh, with no oak spice to cover the grape's natural lift. Stainless steel also preserves the wine's bright acidity and clean aromatics. The cooler, granitic Beaujolais terroir and Gamay's naturally high acidity make for an easy-drinking style that can take a light chill. The colour is bright, light ruby. The nose shows red berries, cherry and red currant with a touch of black pepper and a light, earthy note. The palate is light to medium bodied, juicy and fresh, with soft tannin and crisp acidity carrying a clean red-fruit finish. Serve at 14 to 15C, lightly chilled. Good with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled pork.
