Louis Latour, a long-established Burgundy house, makes this Beaujolais-Villages from Gamay grown on the region’s granite soils. Vinified and held in stainless steel to keep the fruit fresh, it is a light, juicy red showing red cherry, raspberry and a floral lift.
Description
Louis Latour is a family-owned Burgundy house with a long tradition, owning its own cooperage and around 50 hectares of vineyards while also operating as a négociant, buying grapes and wine to vinify under its own name. This Beaujolais-Villages is made from Gamay, the granite-loving grape of southern Burgundy. The Beaujolais-Villages appellation covers higher-quality communes where the granite and schist soils give wines more depth than basic Beaujolais while keeping the variety's hallmark freshness. Gamay ripens early and gives light-bodied, low-tannin reds with bright red fruit, and the carbonic or semi-carbonic style common in the region adds a characteristic floral and banana-like lift. The wine is vinified and held in stainless steel, with no oak, to keep the fruit primary and the wine fresh and immediate. At 12.5 percent it is light on its feet. The colour is bright violet-ruby. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant with a floral, rose-like note, and the palate is light bodied, juicy and soft, with low tannins, fresh acidity and an easy finish. Serve at 13 to 15 degrees, lightly chilled. Its versatility makes it a good all-rounder with roast chicken, charcuterie and mushroom dishes.
