Louis Latour’s Ardeche Chardonnay is an unoaked white from the southern Rhone, made by the historic Burgundy house. Ten months in stainless steel keep it fresh and precise, with lemon, green apple and ripe orchard fruit.
Description
This Chardonnay comes from Maison Louis Latour, one of Burgundy's most historic producers, made from fruit grown in the Vin de Pays de l'Ardeche in the southern Rhone. Latour pioneered Chardonnay in the Ardeche hills, where limestone soils close to those of the Cote d'Or and a cooler, higher altitude climate than the valley floor allow the grape to keep its acidity and citrus character rather than turning heavy. The grapes are farmed under sustainable, respectful agriculture. The wine is aged for ten months in stainless steel tanks, with no oak, a choice that keeps the fruit clean and the style fresh and unadorned. The absence of barrel means the wine shows the grape and the site directly, with primary fruit and a firm line of acidity. The colour is a bright golden yellow with greenish reflections. The nose is precise, showing lemon and green apple with white peach and orchard fruit over a light floral note. The palate is fresh and balanced, with citrus drive and a clean, mineral finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It is a versatile table white for fish, poultry and lighter dishes.
