Louis Jadot Meursault 2023

Maison Louis Jadot, one of Burgundy's most established houses, makes this white from Meursault on the Côte de Beaune, treating each of its plots as a distinct climat with its own soil and character. The wine is Chardonnay grown on limestone-rich marl, where deeper, clay-heavy soils give Meursault its fuller, rounder style compared with its more mineral neighbours. The cool continental climate and slow ripening hold the acidity that keeps the wine balanced. In the cellar it is fermented and aged fifteen months in French oak. The wine rests on its lees, and the malolactic conversion of malic acid into softer lactic acid, along with slow oxygen exchange through the barrel, builds the buttery, nutty depth for which Meursault is known. The colour is bright straw-gold. The nose is generous, with hazelnut, white peach and buttered toast over beeswax and green apple. The palate is broad and creamy, the oak and lees richness balanced by a lemon-fresh line of acidity and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees in a white Burgundy glass.
