Description
Louis Jadot is a large Burgundy house founded in 1859 that both farms its own estate and buys grapes and wine to bottle under its name, managing around two hundred and ten hectares across the region. Unusually it runs its own cooperage, making the barrels it uses to ferment and age its wines. This Coteaux Bourguignons Blanc is a regional Burgundy blend of Chardonnay and Aligoté, the appellation created to bring the region's everyday wines under one name. Burgundy's cool continental climate and limestone soils give both grapes their bright acidity and orchard fruit, while Aligoté in particular brings a lean, citric freshness that keeps the blend crisp. The wine is aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, though the wood is kept in a supporting role so the fruit and the acidity lead, with the lees adding a little texture. The colour is pale lemon-gold. The nose is fresh, with lemon, green apple and pear over white flowers and a light almond note. The palate is dry and lean, its citrus-peel acidity carrying a clean, faintly bready finish. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
