Description
Casa los Frailes lies in the Vals dels Alforins in the Valencia region of south-east Spain, run by siblings María José and Miguel Velázquez as the thirteenth generation of the family. This white, the Blanc de Trilogía, blends Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and the local Verdil, grown biodynamically on limestone soils at altitude, where cool nights and the chalky ground preserve acidity and give the wine its freshness and finesse. The blend is built for aroma: Muscat brings a grapey, floral perfume and Sauvignon Blanc adds citrus and green cut, while Verdil lends a local character. The wine is barrel fermented and aged for six months in oak, a measured élevage that adds texture and a subtle savoury weight through lees contact without burying the fruit; the wood contributes a light frame through slow oxygen exchange rather than overt vanilla. The result keeps the varieties' aromatic lift while gaining body from the barrel. It shows pale straw in the glass, with lemon, orange blossom, white peach and a grapey Muscat note over a faint toasty edge. The palate is dry and fresh, the aromatic fruit carried by limestone acidity and a clean, textured finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits grilled fish and lighter poultry.
