Description
Los Danzantes Espadin Anejo is a scarce aged Oaxacan mezcal from Espadin (Agave angustifolia), made at the Los Danzantes distillery in Santiago Matatlan. Most mezcal is sold unaged, so a true anejo like this is uncommon: it rests sixteen months in wood, seventy percent in American white oak and thirty percent in French white oak, casks used only by this house.
The Espadin is pit roasted, milled and double distilled in copper in the artesanal style, then matured to a clear, brilliant amber. The wood layers vanilla, cinnamon and ripe fruit over the spirit, with smoky and earthy accents and caramel underneath. The palate balances vanilla and oak that build into sweet vanilla, cinnamon and a deep red wood note, closing robust yet smooth with no harsh astringency or tannin. Bottled at 46%, it shows how oak reshapes mezcal while the roasted agave still reads through.
