A cask strength Guadeloupe blanc pressed from fresh cane juice and bottled at a vivid 62%, all bright sugarcane sap, orange and citrus zest over a vegetal green core, with licorice and a peppery snap on the close.
Description
Longueteau is the oldest family owned agricole distillery still running in Guadeloupe, working since 1895 from the Espérance estate at Basse Terre. This Souvenir L'Intemporel is an unaged blanc drawn from fresh pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses, bottled at a forthright 62% to keep every congener intact.
The column still here runs deliberately low to hold onto the grassy, vegetal character that defines true cane juice rum. Expect a clean rush of fresh sugarcane and citrus on the nose, floral lift, then a palate that turns oily and fruity with licorice and a clear peppery bite. The finish stays vegetal and spicy with that cane sweetness running underneath. Bone dry in the AOC tradition, it rewards a good rest in the glass and makes a formidable Ti Punch, though the strength asks for a little water if sipped neat.
