A five year old Guadeloupe single cask from Longueteau, cane juice aged in cognac wood, soft and nutty with nougat, butterscotch, hazelnut and raisin over a sugarcane core, gentle and dry at 45%.
Description
Longueteau Souvenir L'hommage is an aged Guadeloupe agricole from Longueteau, the oldest family-owned agricole distillery on the island, working at the Esperance estate from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice. A tribute bottling named for the founder's grandmother, this is a five year old single cask vieux.
What shapes its character is maturation in roux casks from cognac, which lends a soft, confected sweetness, nougat, butterscotch and a nutty depth on the nose, then woody sugarcane, hazelnut and raisin across the palate. The finish stays nutty and woody with a touch of cane sweetness. The two extra years of ageing beyond the entry tier round it noticeably, giving a gentle, elegant profile that trades agricole sharpness for smoothness. At 45% it drinks soft and easy neat, an aged agricole for those who prefer roundness over green bite.
