A 2019 single-estate Guadeloupe blanc from Longueteau, pressed from blue cane and bottled at 50%, fresh and fruity with sugarcane, citrus and a supple, floral sweetness, a vivid dry agricole made for the Ti Punch.
Description
Longueteau, founded in 1895, is the oldest family-owned agricole distillery still running in Guadeloupe. This Pour la Passion des Chefs 2019 is a special blanc drawn from the estate's own blue cane at the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie, made from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses.
The creole column runs low to keep the green, aromatic congeners in the spirit, giving a fresh, fruity nose of sugarcane and citrus, a supple palate of cane, vegetal notes and citrus, and a floral, sugarcane finish with a touch of natural sweetness. At 50% it stays expressive without heat, and there is no claimed dosage, so the sweetness reads as ripe cane rather than additive. This is exactly the kind of bright, single-estate blanc that makes a memorable Ti Punch, and it works just as well stirred over ice.
