An agricole from Longueteau in Guadeloupe, made with artist Shuck One, fresh cane juice carrying orange peel, butterscotch and caramelised cane into an earthy, liquorice finish, dry and lively at 51.5%.
Description
Longueteau is the oldest family-owned agricole distillery still running in Guadeloupe, working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on its own estate. La Galerie Shuck One is a collaboration with the graffiti artist of that name, and as a Guadeloupe rum it sits under the IGP rather than the Martinique AOC.
The spirit shows the grassy, vegetal backbone of cane juice dressed up with riper, sweeter wood and cane tones, orange peel, caramelised sugar and a woody edge on the nose, then pepper, citrus and butterscotch on the palate. The finish dries out into brown sugar, liquorice and an earthy, slightly astringent close. Bottled at 51.5%, it is dry and brisk rather than sweet, a characterful agricole that holds its own neat and makes a vivid Ti' Punch.
